The "Wireless Networks" tab is missing
I am trying to troublshoot a wireless connection:The wireless Windows Zero Configuration is enabled and running, however the "Wireless Networks" tab is missing from the wireless network connection properties window. Any ideas on how to restore this tab?The radio works, and shows a TX/RX connection, but the router will not assign an IP address.Windows XP SP3, ThinkPad T30 laptop.1 person needs an answerI do too

Some wireless network adapters come with a wireless utility program for managing wireless connections, and that program disables Windows' built-in wireless networking configuration tab. Look for a ThinkPad utility like that, and see if it has an option to let Windows configure the wireless connection.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Thank you for your reply. The program you mention is the ThinkVantage Access Connections. This program is not installed. I removed it long ago since the Windows management of the wireless worked better when travelling. The wireless has been working fine for a couple of years, but suddenly stopped. I reset some of the features like winsock and netsh. I also stopped and restated the Windows zero service. After several tries I am able to get it to obtain an IP address from the router, and it shows TX/RX, but it still does not want to communicate to the internet. The other computers on this home network work just fine (I am sending this on another one). This is baffeling me. Any ideas?

Thank you for your suggestions. I went thorough the procedures as shown (most of which I had already done several times) with no luck. I have removed, reinstalled the wireless card, updated drivers, reinstalled old drivers, installed the Lenovo ThinkVantage connection software, uninstalled it again, uninstalled everything-cleaned the registry and re-installed the drivers again - all with no luck. I have used the LSP fix (shows no problems) and the Winsock repair tool, again with no luck. The wireless radio device works using netstumbler, I can also get a good TX/RX connection but not a steady assigned IP address. I think it has something to do with the missing Wireless Networks tab, but I am unable to figure out how to restore it. I assume there is a registry key (or several) that control the "Wirelss Networks" tab, but I have not been able to find those either. After doing some more research I found that this problem may be related to the removal of adware. I did go through and clean out some adware using Spybot and AdAware recently. Any suggestions on how to find the missing registry keys?

I have stopped and started the WZ service, enabled, disabled it, with and without computer re-starts in between. In addition to playing with the WZ service by itself, I have also included several other tries using combinations of driver roll-backs and reinstalls as well. I have been looking for the magic combination that will get the tab back, but nothing I do seems to fix it.Asside from re-installing windows, I have no idea how to get the tab back.

HiWin XP OS can be refreshed without losing Data and application.May be you should consider trying it.Refresh XP Installation. Boot from the XP original CD. Skip the first screen that offers Console Repair, and continue as though you install a New XP.After you Agree etc., the new install screen will come on and would detect the current XP installation.Choose the Repair option by Pressing R for Repair.Use it, would take about 45Min. and you will have a Refreshed Installation of XP while keeping all your data and XP configuration.P.S. If you made changes to WinXP Security setting (Like Firewall special permission), you have to look over them after the refresh since they might revert to the Default. Jack-MVP Windows Networking. After a long ordeal with reloading issues, I finally have completed a repair installation. Unfortunately, the wireless tab is still missing after all of that effort. The wireless works perfectly with netstumbler, and seems to work with connecting to the router, it just does not obtain an IP address. I could probably get it to connect - if I had the Wireless Networks tab and access to the controls. At this point I have uninstalled everything that had to do with the internet - (Bitdefender internet security, Thinkvantage access connections, etc.) I have also uninstalled the wireless card, downloaded and reinstalled the drivers from the lenovo website. Still no Wireless Networks tab. There has to be some way to restore this tab, I just need to find it. Any other ideas on how to correct this?
